Nestled within the innovative corridors of St. Catira University, the Creative Arts Department continues to shine as a beacon of artistic excellence, preserving its legacy as one of the SouthEast's premier creative arts institutions. Here, the art of writing weaves through the narrative of history, psychological insights fuel character development in theater, and creative reading ignites the imagination. Our curriculum does not just educate; it immerses students in a dynamic blend of theory and practice, where the classroom extends into the real world.
Our department champions a unique synthesis of traditional arts with cutting-edge STEM disciplines, embraced over the last 25 years, yet remains true to its roots.

Catria's husband, a Federal soldier during the Civil War, was captured and imprisoned at Salisbury Prison, known for its harsh conditions. Amidst the adversity, he and five fellow prisoners hatched a plan to establish a university in North Carolina, envisioning a place of learning and reconciliation after the war. Tragically, only two of these men survived the prison's brutal environment, her husband being one of them.
After the war, Catria and her husband moved from Maryland to North Carolina, embodying the spirit of reconstruction. They dedicated themselves to education, contributing significantly to the post-war rebuilding efforts. Their work culminated in the founding of a university in 1882, which aimed to foster education and heal the wounds of the Civil War through knowledge and community.
Catria, through her dedication to education, community service, and perhaps her support for her husband's vision, became a beloved figure. Although not officially canonized by any religious institution, she was revered by the local culture and tradition as a "saint" for her virtuous life and contributions to society. This title reflects her impact on the community, embodying ideals of compassion, resilience, and enlightenment.

The STEM program in question, though only a quarter-century old, has quickly made a name for itself within a university traditionally celebrated for its Creative Arts. This program was introduced to integrate the innovation-driven fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics into an environment rich with artistic creativity, aiming to foster interdisciplinary learning and innovation.
This program represents a modern educational pivot, where traditional arts education institutions adapt to the growing demand for STEM skills, creating a fertile ground for students who are at the intersection of technology and creativity. Despite its youth, the program's integration into a school known for creative arts has provided a unique ecosystem where technology meets imagination, leading to its rapid rise in academic prominence.
